The Easter long weekend is almost here and there’s no shortage of awesome things to do over four days of work-free bliss. It doesn’t matter if you’re an egg, bunny or chocolate bilby kind of person, Easter’s one of the best weekends for activities on the Aussie calendar, and if you’re like me you’re keen to get out there and sample more than just the sugar this April.

So, if you’re looking for a break from working on that giant footy egg you picked up from K-Mart, I’ve got the good oil on the top things to do over the sweetest weekend of the year:

Easter weekend entertainment

The Sydney Royal Easter Show

This one is a no-brainer if you’re in the area. The Sydney Royal Easter Show is a classic day out for all the family. Plus, stretching from the 6th to the 19th of April, you have plenty of days to choose when to visit. Amazing food, animal shows, arts & crafts, a fairground, and even a rodeo – the Easter Show is when the country comes to the city and should not be overlooked.

The Stawell Gift

Definitely one for the more energetic amongst us, the Stawell Gift caters to the whole family. Whether you want to take part in the racing, or simply spectate and take in the energy of the event, there’s fun for all that attend. With races ranging from the the famous Calcutta race and Call of the Card on Good Friday all the way to The Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt, your fitness level won’t be tested unless you want it to be.

The Stawell Gift runs between the 15th – 17th April 2017

Camping

A typical Aussie tradition over the long weekend is to head out of town and set up a tent in a remote part of the country. Pack some beers, delicious food (as well as a small BBQ – or be prepared to cook over an open fire) and relax with no mobile phone coverage or annoying emails to stress you out.

Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach

Not many know this about me, but another favourite pastime of mine is heading down to the beach and hitting the surf. Whilst I may not be at the professional level just yet, there’s no better feeling than carving front side on the lip, with the salt water splashing in your face (sorry, I’m getting carried away now). That said, it doesn’t matter if you’re surf mad like me or can’t even swim – if you’re in Victoria, then the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach is a fantastic spectator sport and an excellent way to spend your Easter weekend.

Easter at the Zoo

With a Good Friday breakfast, giant Easter egg hunt, free hot cross buns, treasure hunts and even the chance to win a Yamaha Waverunner, the zoo is a great choice for Easter fun. With all these activities on top of the usual animal antics, there’s no better venue for a family day out, an outing with friends, or even a date with that special someone.

Pro Tip: there isn’t a girl (or male with a heart) alive that doesn’t like Red Pandas – so make sure you go and see those.
