Here you have it, Joe’s ultimate tips for Grand Final weekend, the best weekend of the year.
It’s been a bloody good season in the AFL this year and it’s going to be a hard to call it, but somebodies gotta do it, so it’s up to me to stick my neck out.
I’m tipping a Swans vs Bulldogs Grand Final with the Swannies taking it out. I’m a bit of a fan of old mate Buddy Franklin and I reckon he’ll be wheeling around on his left and slottin’ them from everywhere, so he’s my tip for the Norm Smith Medal.
You can’t discount those mighty Bullies though—they’ve had a fairy-tale season and they’re every chance to take out their first flag since 1954, and if they do it’s going to be Marcus Bontempelli ripping it up in the midfield to get ‘em over the line. Imagine the scenes at Whitten Oval if that happens!
Now onto the NRL…
I’ve laboured over this one for a while, but finally I’m going to go for a Melbourne Storm vs Cronulla Sharks final, with the Storm winning by 6 points.
I wanted to pick the Cowboys to make it to the big dance—mainly because my boy Jonathan Thurston is still the best player in the league—but the Sharks are a bit like the ‘Dogs in the AFL and I just reckon the good vibes from the Shire (and everyone south of Townsville!) will get them through to face the Storm.
Keep an eye on James Maloney from the Sharks. He’s my tip for first try scorer. He’s had a massive year since crossing from the Roosters and he’s made for the big stage.
